Highway 94: Defiance to Hermann
MO 94, MO 19 · Defiance → Hermann
The drive
Highway 94 closely parallels the Missouri River, and this 48.3-mile drive takes it west from Defiance through Augusta, Dutzow, Marthasville and Treloar, then crosses the Highway 19 bridge into Hermann. It has mostly gentle curves.
This is Missouri wine country. Augusta, founded in 1836 by German settlers, holds the first American Viticultural Area recognized in the United States, in 1980, and it is a popular stop on the Katy Trail, a 225-mile bike and walking path on a former railroad right-of-way. Hermann, where the drive ends, was founded by German settlers in 1837, and it is the hub of the Hermann wine area. Stone Hill Winery, the state's largest winemaking business, is in town.
