Highway 30: Long Lake to Tupper Lake
NY 30, Adirondack Trail · Blue Mountain Lake → Tupper Lake
The drive
This is the middle of Highway 30's long run through the Adirondacks, the road known as the Adirondack Trail. It leaves Blue Mountain Lake heading north with Highway 28N, through forest, to the hamlet of Long Lake, about 11 miles on, where the highway crosses the lake on a bridge at the center of town. Float planes for scenic rides take off near the town beach.
Past Long Lake, Highway 30 goes on alone for about 21 miles to Tupper Lake. It runs past a series of lakes and follows the Franklin and St. Lawrence county line for a long way, with few buildings between the two villages, before entering Tupper Lake.
It chains straight on from the Highway 28 drive from Old Forge, which ends at Blue Mountain Lake, and from Tupper Lake the Highway 3 drive heads west to Cranberry Lake.
