The drive

State Road 135 runs south from Nashville through the hilly country of Brown County. For the first stretch it shares the road with SR 46, then SR 135 carries on alone toward Freetown. Brown County State Park, nicknamed the Little Smokies, sits near Nashville, and the park calls itself a traditional fall color hot spot.

Along the way the road passes Story, where the Story Inn has stood since 1851 at 6404 Indiana Highway 135. The inn describes Story as a corridor between Brown County State Park and Hoosier National Forest. Beyond Story the road is quiet and winding, and it ends at Freetown near the junction with SR 58.

The drive is 24.5 miles and takes about 45 minutes. It has one twisty stretch, roughly miles 10 to 12, and the rest is sweeping.
