The drive

From Exmouth, Murat Road and Yardie Creek Road run 80 km (50 mi) round North West Cape to the end of the sealed road at Yardie Creek. The bends are gentle and the climb is small: this is a coastal drive beside the Ningaloo Reef beaches, with Cape Range rising on the inland side. It is also the way into Cape Range National Park.

A guide route over the same road gives rough distances: about 19 km from Exmouth to Vlamingh Head, then Tantabiddi boat ramp, then the access roads to Mangrove Bay (a birdlife stop) and Turquoise Bay (a snorkelling beach about 1.2 km off the road). The drive ends before the Yardie Creek car park. Yardie Creek itself is a gorge with a permanent water source, explored on foot or on a boat tour. The crossing beyond the creek is a 4WD-only track.
