Dixville Notch: Route 26
NH 26, Mohawk Road · Colebrook → Errol
The drive
NH 26 runs east from Colebrook, where it briefly shares US 3, and follows the Mohawk River toward Dixville. Dixville Notch is a pass in the northernmost White Mountains, at about 1,800 feet, and it has its own state park. The Balsams Grand Resort Hotel, which opened during the Civil War and closed in 2011, sits along the road.
Beyond the notch the road clips a corner of Millsfield and ends in Errol at NH 16, about 21 miles from Colebrook. At the notch, Dixville Notch State Park has a gorge with waterfalls: Baby Flume is a short walk, about 0.1 mile, from roadside parking, where the falls drop 18 feet in three steps.
