Bruny Island Main Road
Lennon Road, B66, Adventure Bay Road · Roberts Point → Adventure Bay
The drive
Bruny Island Main Road starts at the Roberts Point ferry landing on North Bruny and runs south to Adventure Bay on South Bruny. It is 34.3 km (21.3 mi) and takes about 40 minutes. The first and last stretches have the bends, with a straighter run in between.
The middle of the drive crosses The Neck, a long, narrow sandy isthmus that joins North Bruny to South Bruny. It is an important breeding site for short-tailed shearwaters and fairy penguins.
Adventure Bay has history: Tobias Furneaux anchored there in 1773, and Captain Cook's ships stayed two days in January 1777. The bay was also one of the island's largest timber ports. The drive does not cross water itself. You reach the start on the vehicle ferry from Kettering, a crossing of about 20 minutes.
Along the way

Good to know
- The vehicle ferry from Kettering to Roberts Point runs a queue: tickets bought ahead are for the next available sailing, not a set time, and you can also buy at the Kettering terminal.
- Allow for ferry queues in busy periods, and for a ferry fare on top of the drive.
- Wildlife is on the road at dusk and at night, so slow down then.
